Welcome to Jera Bladeworks

As a passionate custom knifemaker based in Bellville, Texas, I craft knives of all shapes and sizes along with various blacksmithing art pieces. Let me share my story with you.

Since childhood, my fascination with the forge has been unwavering. The intense heat of the fire, the aroma of heated metal, and the rhythmic clinks of the hammer meeting the anvil captivated me from the start. My venture commenced in a humble setting, quite literally underground. A modest forge was pieced together using a blow dryer and a simple hole in the earth. I was completely clueless about what I was doing, but it marked the beginning nevertheless.

At the age of 14, I received instruction from my local blacksmith. I was taught fundamental techniques such as heat control, proper metal manipulation, and developed a profound appreciation for the art. I furthered my training through a brief apprenticeship under his guidance, refining my skills until the imprudent choice to resign and return to independent work.

When I reached 18 years of age, I made the choice to reconnect with my former teacher from years past. I brought my inaugural completed knife for his evaluation and feedback. Seeking his insights and critiques, he unveiled the flaws in my work, enlightening me to the extent of my limited knowledge. Expressing my desire for further guidance, I humbly requested his mentorship once again. Much to my astonishment, he graciously agreed.

During a period of about two and a half years, I apprenticed with him, absorbing every detail possible. Throughout this experience, I honed not only the skill of crafting a knife accurately but also the art of creating a functional piece of art. Additionally, I developed effective communication skills, dedicating ample time to instructing both adults and children in crafting their personalized souvenir knives whenever I was not engrossed in the shop's projects. This time allowed me the privilege of connecting with various bladesmiths, gaining valuable knowledge from each. I am deeply grateful to all of them for the knowledge they imparted to me.

In late 2021, I once again made the decision to venture out on my own. I transitioned into a role as a welding instructor while persisting in creating knives under my own brand. Despite having limited workshop space, I relied on the expertise acquired over the years to make the most of it. Gradually, I cultivated my unique artistic approach, refined existing skills, and sought guidance from other seasoned blacksmiths. By mid-2023, I had committed to bladesmithing as my full-time occupation. Now recognized as a Lone Star Knifemaker affiliated with the Texas Knifemakers' Guild, I eagerly anticipate the unfolding of what lies ahead in this remarkable journey.
